Taste of Aquaculture Program and MyAP/MyKP Sarawak Carnival Encourage Sustainable Development of the Local Fisheries Industry

The Sarawak Marine Fisheries Department organized the Taste of Aquaculture Program and myAgropreneur Fisheries (myAP)/myFisheries Community (myKP) Carnival with the theme “Sustainable Fisheries, Assured Delicacies”, held at Majma Mall, Kuching. The launching ceremony was officiated by the Director-General of the Department of Fisheries Malaysia, Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Haji Adnan bin Hussain. This program aimed to introduce marine aquaculture products and local fisheries downstream products, while also serving as a strategic platform to expand market networks and empower the participation of entrepreneurs and fishing communities in the fisheries industry value chain. In conjunction with the event, 12 SpeKS recipients and three Fisheries Network Leaders were awarded mock cheques and GPS equipment in recognition of their contributions to grassroots fisheries development. The event also featured the launch of a book on artificial reefs titled “SATU – Sarawak Artificial Reefs Trailblazing Underwater”, symbolizing the Department’s commitment to marine conservation, in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14: Life Below Water. The installation of artificial reefs not only helps to restore marine habitats and preserve biodiversity but also contributes to the sustainability of fishermen’s livelihoods. Also present at the event were YBrs Encik Abdul Rahman bin Abdul Wahab, Senior Director of the Sarawak Marine Fisheries Department; YBrs Encik Jamil bin Musel, Director of the Sarawak and Labuan Fisheries Research Institute; YBrs. Puan Rosmawati binti Ghazali, Senior Deputy Director of the Aquaculture Division; as well as officers from the Fisheries Headquarters, state, and district levels.

Monthly Assembly & Aidilfitri Gathering Ceremony Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security 2025

Staff of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS) gathered in a spirit of unity during the Monthly Assembly and Aidilfitri Gathering Ceremony. The event not only strengthened the bonds of solidarity among ministry personnel but also fostered closer ties in conjunction with the blessed month of Syawal. More than 2,000 ministry staff enlivened the event, which was held concurrently with the Ministry’s monthly assembly. The event was further graced by the presence of the Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Tuan Haji Mohamad Sabu, who delivered an important address to all ministry personnel. The Department of Fisheries Malaysia (DOF) was awarded Best Booth Design, with their RUSTIC-themed presentation that showcased natural, classic, worn, and casual elements. This theme was chosen as it closely reflects the spirit of Hari Raya in Malaysia, which traditionally leans toward honoring one’s roots—in other words, emphasizing tradition while highlighting the beauty of local cultural heritage during the Syawal celebration.

Cooking and Distribution of Bubur Lambuk Program in Conjunction with Ramadan 2025

Alhamdulillah, a meaningful program was successfully held at the headquarters of the Department of Fisheries Malaysia. The Cooking and Distribution of Bubur Lambuk program, organized by the Human Capital Development Division (BPMI), in collaboration with PUSPANITA and KESUSIP, was successfully carried out. The bubur lambuk, cooked with love and care, was distributed by YBhg. Dato’ Haji Adnan bin Hussain, Director-General of Fisheries Malaysia, to all staff at the headquarters of the Department of Fisheries Malaysia. It is hoped that this program not only strengthens the ties of brotherhood but also shares blessings and brings barakah during this blessed month of Ramadan. Courtesy Visit of the Director-General of the Department of Veterans Affairs (JHEV) of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) to the Department of Fisheries Malaysia

The Department of Fisheries Malaysia (DOF) today welcomed a courtesy visit from the Director-General of the Department of Veterans Affairs (JHEV) of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), YBhg. Mej Jen Dato’ Haji Semaon bin Haji Marjuki, at Wisma Tani. The visit aimed to discuss the strategic direction of cooperation between JHEV ATM and DOF, particularly in enhancing the employability of ATM veterans in the fisheries sector. Among the initiatives discussed were the offering of technical courses in various programs organized by DOF nationwide, the implementation of training programs related to the fisheries industry to enhance the skills and entrepreneurship of ATM veterans, and the provision of employment opportunities for qualified ATM veterans, particularly in the aquaculture sector. The meeting was chaired by YBhg. Dato’ Haji Azahari bin Haji Othman, Deputy Director-General of Fisheries (Development), and was also attended by senior officers from DOF. This collaboration reflects DOF’s commitment to supporting human capital development, thus adding value to the nation’s fisheries industry.

Official Visit of the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) to the Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah Fisheries College Training Ship Project

YBhg. Datuk Seri Isham bin Ishak, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, conducted an official visit and chaired a monitoring meeting for the Design, Build, Test, and Certification of the Training Ship Project for the Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah Fisheries College (KPSN) at MSET Shipbuilding Corporation Sdn. Bhd., Kuala Terengganu. The purpose of this official visit and meeting was to monitor the status of the ongoing project and discuss any emerging issues during the project’s implementation. Also present during the visit were YBhg Dato’ Haji Adnan bin Hussain, Director-General of Fisheries Malaysia, Pn. Hizatul Haliza Binti Hashim, Secretary of the Agricultural Capacity Development and Training Division at KPKM, Puan Misjijah binti Marul, Secretary of the Finance Division at KPKM, Puan Norul Fahiezah binti Salehuddin, Director of Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah Fisheries College (KPSN), and senior officers from KPKM and the Department of Fisheries Malaysia.

Session of Stakeholder Engagement with the Fishing Community of the West Coast Zone

YBhg. Dato’ Haji Adnan bin Hussain, Director-General of Fisheries Malaysia, attended the Stakeholder Engagement Session with the Fishing Community of the West Coast Zone at the Dato’ Lope Hashim Hall, Bagan Datuk, Perak, organized by the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM). This engagement session aimed to share views and discuss emerging issues to ensure the development of the sector aligns with the modernization of the fisheries industry. The engagement session, involving the fishing community from Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, and Perak, was officiated by YB Datuk Seri Haji Mohamad bin Sabu, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM), and witnessed by YAB Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid bin Hamidi, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia 1 and Member of Parliament for Bagan Datuk. YBhg. Dato’ Haji Adnan bin Hussain was also appointed as a panelist for this engagement session alongside YBhg. Datuk Seri Isham bin Ishak, Secretary-General of KPKM, and YBrs. Encik Hamdan bin Mamat, Director-General of LKIM. Also present at this engagement session were YBrs. The 14th PUSPANITA Meeting of the Malaysian Fisheries Department

The PUSPANITA Branch of the Malaysian Fisheries Department (DOF) held its 41st PUSPANITA Gathering Meeting at the Arowana Hall today. The meeting was officiated and chaired by YBhg. Datin Hajah Yusaniza binti Md. Yunus, Chairperson of PUSPANITA of the Malaysian Fisheries Department (DOF). The purpose of the meeting was to present the PUSPANITA DOF 2024 Program and Activity Report, the PUSPANITA DOF 2024 Financial Report, and the Program and Activity Planning for PUSPANITA DOF in 2025. Also present were YBrs. Puan Yeo Moi Eim, Deputy Chairperson I, and YBhg. Datin Hajah Roslija binti Hashim, Deputy Chairperson II of PUSPANITA DOF.

G12 Leadership Competency Profile Development Program, Department of Fisheries Malaysia

The Department of Fisheries Malaysia, through the Human Capital Development Division, has implemented the G12 Leadership Competency Profile Development Program in collaboration with the National Institute of Public Administration (INTAN) under the Strategic Leadership Assessment Program (PPKS). This program has developed a comprehensive competency profile that includes four key elements: Personal Profile (Curriculum Vitae, CV), Psychometric Test, English Language Assessment, and Leadership Competency Interview using the E-LEAP (Executive Leadership Assessment Programme) module. This program is specifically designed to identify officers who meet the established criteria and competencies, particularly in terms of leadership quality. A total of 30 Senior Fisheries Officers from G12 attended this program, which took place from February 25 to 27, 2025, at the Institut Semarak Felda, Bangi.

Working Visit of the Director General of Fisheries Malaysia to Wee Fishery Farm

A working visit was made by YBhg. Dato’ Haji Adnan bin Hussain, Director General of Fisheries Malaysia, to Wee Fishery Farm located in Kg. Pasir Gogok, Kota Tinggi, Johor. Wee Fishery Farm, operated by Mr. Liew Ni Wee, is involved in the breeding and hatchery activities of marine fish species such as Barramundi, Red Snapper, and Giant Trevally. The total marine fish egg production in 2024 was 954 million eggs, which are in high demand from marine fish nurseries both within and outside Johor. Wee Fishery Farm also operates a 3,200 square meter marine fish cage used for farming marine species like Snapper, Red Snapper, and Grouper, as well as for housing broodstock used for breeding purposes. The breeding process is carried out in the cages, and the eggs produced are transferred to land-based premises for nurturing before being supplied. Also accompanying the visit were Puan Noor Hasmayana binti Yahya, Head of the Marine Aquaculture Branch, Aquaculture Division, Fisheries Headquarters, Putrajaya, along with officers and staff from the Johor State Fisheries Office.

Conservation Organization Award Ceremony, Mission Blue Award 2025

The Department of Fisheries Malaysia (DOF) is honored to support the Conservation Organization Award Ceremony, Mission Blue Award 2025, held in conjunction with the Diving, Resort & Travel (DRT) Expo 2025 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. This award was presented to seven non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in recognition of their dedication to marine ecosystem conservation in Malaysia. The ceremony was officiated by YBrs. Puan Yeo Moi Eim, Deputy Director General (Management) of DOF, who emphasized the crucial role of NGOs in promoting advocacy, raising public awareness, and continuously monitoring marine ecosystems. The Diving, Resort & Travel (DRT) Expo 2025, held from February 21 to 23, 2025, served as an important platform bringing together industry experts, divers, eco-tourism practitioners, and environmental enthusiasts. Also present at the event were Mr. Pang Anak Nyukang, Senior Deputy Director of the Fisheries Conservation and Protection Division, and officers from the Fisheries Department headquarters.
